Triethoxycaprylylsilane is a coating added to the zinc oxide to improve general stability and performance (both SPF and sensorial) of the formulation. It is one of the few coatings allowed on the ZnO in the annex 6 of the EC regulation on cosmetics (EC1223/2009). It is a toxic, carcinogenic substance, however, The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) concluded Triethoxycaprylylsilane can safely be used to coat sunscreen actives (ZnO) and safe for human health when below concentrations of 2.6%. This is at 0.5377% w/w in each formulation.
