Through your own eyes - who is Marianne Roussety?

A deeply passionate, creative, sensitive woman, artist, mother and wife.

How did your creative journey begin?

My creative journey started at a very young age (6 or 7), when my father taught me to draw, he was an amazing artist. I fell in love with drawing, then it lead me to trying many other mediums such as painting and jewellery making.

You’re originally from Quebec in Canada - how did you end up in Australia?

At the end of summer 2015, I travelled to Portugal, where I met my now husband who is Australian. I knew in my heart that making the move to Australia to live together was the right thing to do.

What was the inspiration behind your jewellery brand MIIMU?

My inspiration is anchored in my multicultural roots, in art, in nature and in sustainability.

How do you approach creating a new piece, and what do you want people to feel when they wear it?

When I create a new piece, I usually begin with a feeling, something I’ve noticed in nature, a texture, a spiral, a special gemstone, a story that lingers in my mind. When it comes to beaded jewellery, I find beads that speak to me, beads that are unique and timeless, I don’t usually sketch for beaded pieces but instead create freely when they are in front of me. Each piece comes alive slowly and intentionally. When someone wears MIIMU, I want them to feel connected, empowered and inspired.

Sustainability is core to your work. What does this look like in practice?

For my beaded jewellery, I choose beads from ethical sources and I hand make the pieces myself in very small quantities to keep them unique. When it comes to working with artisans, I make sure to collaborate with makers that have similar values to mine, with keeping integrity, transparency, ethical labour, giving back to communities and using materials that don’t harm the earth, at the core of my work.

How does living in Byron Bay influence your creativity?

Byron has this balance of wild nature and creative community that keeps me grounded yet inspired. When we moved to Byron 8 years ago, we had the goal in mind to create a different life for ourselves, a life where we make for a living and where we can enjoy nature everyday.

What are your favourite IKKARI rituals, and how do they fit into your own daily practices?

I have been LOVING using the Adrenal Support Tonic the last few weeks, we have been busy the last little while with our businesses, travels and taking care of our little energetic toddler so the tonic has been amazing at keeping us grounded. I love oiling daily with the Ikarian Body Oil, I tend to have dry skin so my skin absolutely loves an extra bit of moisture and hydration.
