Q+A with Gary Gorrow
What’s your approach to holistic health and what does it mean to you?
I have come to appreciate that there are many significant pieces in the wellness puzzle. My approach is to nurture my mind, body and nervous system each and every day with meditation. I also am very particular about what food I put into my body. I follow the Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle. I focus consistently not just on food but more so on digestion - how my body is digesting the food I give it. Exercise and movement is key to health and longevity so I surf regularly, go to the gym a couple of days a week and also do Pilates once a week. I do my best to have work, life balance and make time to pursue that which makes my heart sing, like time with friends, family and adventures in the wild. Another key piece is getting quality sleep, waking early and going to bed at a reasonable hour.
How do your ethos align with IKKARI and why did you want to be part of the journey?
Joining the IKKARI journey was a very easy decision to make, I was greatly impressed by their high quality products and their focus on holistic health solutions. You can see an enormous amount of science and consideration has gone into the formulation of their offerings as well as the beauty in their packaging and branding. It is not simply a stunning looking range but the content is sensational. I am a man who appreciates uncompromising quality, brand authenticity and integrity. I feel IKKARI aligns not only with me as a person but with my meditation practice. We're a great match.
Can you share an experience where you reached transformation or a turning point with your health or wellbeing?
I would say a major turning point was when I was 21 years old and was going through an incredibly stressful period of my life. I was burned out and completely overwhelmed. It was at that point I realised I needed to do something significant to turn my life around or else the future was not going to be particularly bright. It was then that I made the commitment to learn Vedic Meditation. It was completely life changing for me. A new mind and a new state of being emerged within and I never looked back. Once my mental game was soaring I later realised my body needed to get with the program, that was the next turning point where I began to pursue the knowledge of Ayurveda - the ancient science of health, vitality and longevity that originates from India.
When do you feel your highest self?
Where I have been doing a lot of spiritual practice, which for me centres primarily around meditation. Also being immersed in the natural world far away from the demands of everyday life has the effect of transporting me into a higher state of consciousness.
Which IKKARI products make up your rituals?
I love them all to be honest, but my favourites would have to be the Restorative Face Oil, the formulation is divine and is so nourishing for the skin. The Ikarian Body Wash is incredible, so many soaps and body washes feel like they are stripping the skin of its natural oils and protection but not this one. It has this wonderful action where it cleanses the body, but at the same time has a deeply hydrating effect. It also smells incredible. The Aura Balancing Mist is beautiful too, such an elevating moment as the smell of the essential oils activates centres of the brain bringing a calm over your nervous system.
